Everything in pictures!

Recently made a short trip to HK to visit my good friend S. Before moving over, she was my shopping kaki at FEP and we used to spend loads in just 2-3 hours. We were great together because we had the same shopping speed – fast; and we kinda knew what each other would like. She has a keen eye for good stuff and her fashion taste is exquisite. MISSED HER SO MUCH. Well, older now, and in Hong Kong, we shopped till the holes in my pockets were so huge it was no longer just a hole. We had a blast though. Shopping, doing spa manicure/pedicure, eating and just being girly creamed with late night girly chats on her couch and watching shows like the Bridget Jones Diary. I MISS YOU BABE.

I love dim sum and where best to have them but in HONG KONG! Every time I am in Hong Kong we check out a different place for dim sum. This time, S brought me to DRAGON KING RESTAURANT. It was awesome! I loved the selection and the quality of the dishes served. My highlight has to be the scallop chee cheong fun.

I like it how they had it cut up into pieces each with a full scallop! I finished an entire plate all on my own! The place is cosy with little “cubicles” for each table which added to a sense of privacy. Great ambience and quality food, this place gets TWO thumbs up from me! :)

Not  a fan of egg tarts but the ones here were really good!

THE UPPER HOUSE, situated near the Mariott Hotel, Conrad and Shangrila is a great place to just chill and enjoy the view of the harbour. Reservations have to be made as this place is usually packed especially weekends. The general vibe is a little like SEVVA. Perfect for a night out with the girls, or that romantic post dinner date. I love the view and the ambience. Kinda wish Singapore had more of such places. Now we just have so many rooftop chill bars springing up. Not that I am complaining, but it would be nice to have more of such options as well. I guess we do, like the one at Swissotel and perhaps at the Martini place at the Hyatt Hotel. But we could use more of such I think. Oh well.

Incidentally, there is a similar outfit in Beijing by the same people, called THE OPPOSITE HOUSE and I was there just 2 days later when I was over for business. Here the hotel’s focus is in its artistic design. I would definitely try to spend a night here come my next trip. Looks pretty cool. Somewhat like an arty farty boutique hotel.

Been traveling quite a bit for work. Last one was to Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai. I like Beijing. Wanna visit the Forbidden City again if I get a chance…

On the way to client’s…

When I was in HK, S and I went for Sunday Brunch at the Tiffin Lounge @ the Grand Hyatt. I must say it’s by far the best champagne brunch I have ever been to! Amongst the wide variety of desserts and international cuisine were PAN FRIED FOIE GRAS and CHEESE LOBSTER!! Those 2 were enough to make me go back the next time I am in Hong Kong. Be sure to make reservations!! Try to get the window seats if possible. Absolute decadence on a Sunday afternoon, made perfect by the best company – D and S! :)

Feeling hungry just looking at the pics…

Recently checked out Artichoke with R for brunch. Located at the old Secret Garden, I like the ambience here. It’s very cosy and intimate. My idea of a casual, lazy Sunday afternoon. It can get pretty hot if you are seated outside though which is really unfortunate as it is so much nicer outdoors – drats! Singapore weather!

Service is somewhat slow as it a small kitchen. Prices are very reasonable and the highlight for me has to be the BACON! It’s not often in Singapore that I get served the entire whole thick slab of bacon. Usually, its the thin fried strip, but here, you get it whole and full. Nicely grilled, with lots of oil and fat but absolutely YUMMY!

Sigh I really should start exercising. I think my body is protesting all these fattening food by growing a belch. :S

So it was one of those lazy nights at home where we didn’t want to travel too far yet I had to eat something yummy. Dad suggested checking out this place he drove past one day. Apparently they were selling crabs at $35/kg!! For those of you not in the know, places like Jumbo and Long Beach go at $44/kg and House of Seafood goes at $48/kg. I love checking out these random hawkers at HDB blocks as they usually can be very surprising. I was not disappointed. Not only was the crab tasty and fresh. All of the dishes were equally excellent. Delicious and very reasonably priced! Service was also prompt and good. I was thoroughly impressed. Will I be back? Definitely! (Unfortunately I didn’t take pictures of everything I ordered but I had the LALA with sambal, Black Pepper OR Spring Onion Beef, one or the other – very tender; baby kailan with garlic, and Black Pepper Crabs – 2: They are tiny at 800g compared to those 1.4kg I am used to, but still alright. I think I ordered one more dish but I can’t recall right now…)

The crab wasn’t outstanding but for the price paid, I say it was VERY GOOD. A mix between the peanut taste at House of Seafood/Still Road, and the sweet taste of Melban and No.3 Crab Delicacy. Will check out their other preparations next time!

Best and Most Memorable Ba Cor Mee @ Bedok Block 85. Cheap and YUMMY! One of my tops for favourite late night supper food!

Went to Oversea Restaurant for Lunch that day. I still think the char siew is one of the best but according to my friend, there’s a better one in KL. Some hawker stall. Whilst I still think their KL branch does it better, this serves me well too. Having been here longer now as compared to my previous entry on this, they now have more of the KL dishes available. Slightly over-priced in my opinion but definitely worth a try. Remember to reserve your char siew! And yes, it can get quite jelat so don’t over order!

The uncle convinced me to try this eggplant with otah and fish cake dish but I think I should have stuck to my eggplant and minced pork.

Had lunch at Golden Peony with my colleagues last Friday. I always had a good impression of Golden Peony @ the Conrad for serving good food ever since my cousin’s wedding at Conrad hotel 2 years ago. But I must say I was a tad disappointed at their dim sum selection. It was limited, and frankly, not great. The ala carte dishes took way too long to be served as well. Should have gone to Wah Lok…

This was not bad. Scallop with bean curd I think…but not outstanding.

I usually like my yoghurt plain without toppings but colleague bought this. LOVE frolick yoghurt, especially the one at Millenia Walk. It just tastes better. :) Yammi Yoghurt too!! sigh will miss this area when we move end of this week…

.

.

ok super long entry. Tired…gonna crash. Brand new week. And we move to asia square on Friday! Excited about new desk and screens and all but sure gonna miss our cosy nook at Millenia/Suntec. Haven’t figured out my travel route yet…

Went for dim sum lunch at Taste Paradise at ION today so look out for that review coming up! :)

Good night!

No.3 Crab Delicacy . Shaw “Gold Class”

CRABS. I hadn’t been to No. 3 Crab Delicacy for some time. Off Outram road, this place has been known for fresh and sweet crabs. Their ticket to fame came from their Curry Crab, which despite eating there a couple of times before over the last few years, I had never tried. Up until recently, I think I have only had their Crab Bee Hoon Soup. I don’t even think I have had their Black Pepper Crab! I remember thinking their crabs were quite expensive back in the day when Jumbo was so much cheaper. But today, I would say they are reasonably priced at $4/100g. The crabs are big, sweet and very fresh. I recently had the crab bee hoon soup again which, true to form was very sweet and succulent. However I found the bee hoon a tad soggy and the soup just a step behind that of melban. The Curry Crab was delicious. The curry was sweet, a little spicy yet not too much and the crab tasted surprisingly well with it! Who would have thought hey compliment so well. I really like the crabs here. In fact, I should be returning again this time to try their black pepper crab and fried bee hoon crab, both of which look absolutely yummy as well! The sambal kang kung served here is very tasty. With just the right amount of spice and he bee hiam, it’s good all on its own. The clams are also very good, served in a sweet, clam flavoured “soup”. The clams are also fresh and very addictive. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to any crab lover for they serve their crabs in almost all preparations possible. You can be sure the crabs would be fresh and of a good size and quality as I understand the restaurant owners supply fresh crabs in a market too.

I have always enjoyed watching movies in Gold Class. I remember going when they first started some 5 years ago. It was so nice and comfy. The chairs were plush and soft and huge! I loved how you could extend it out full, and it was just so spacious. Love the soft blankets they gave that kept you warm and how you could order wine and cheese in the theatre. It was luxurious. Over the years, the novelty wore off and the Gold Class got old and sometimes “smelly” – old carpet smell. I still enjoy watching my movies there but I think its time they did a renovation. Well, with the new Shaw Lido opening and the Shaw at Nex, I thought I’d check out their version of the Gold Class, which is only availanle at Nex. My verdict? Not as good as the original Gold Class from GV. The place may be newer but the overall design just ain’t as good. The seats aren’t as comfortable and as they are made of leather, they make a sound everytime you try to adjust it. It is also more cramped. You literally touch the chair in front of you when you fully extend you seat, which is also rather short. And the blanket provided seems to be of poorer quality too. The good thing about the new Shaw however, are those 3D glasses. They are a lot lighter and more comfortable. The effects are also much better. I am still waiting to check out the new IMAX theatre. Will let you know how that is. So there’s my random update! Catch you soon! ☺

House Kitchen – Crab craving? Affordable and DELICIOUS! :)

I received a flyer in my mail box about this newly opened Seafood Restaurant in Serangoon Gardens. What attracted me to it were of course the crabs and the fact that they had a fixed pricing. In most seafood establishments, crabs, prawns and generally most seafood have a per kg price. So you never really know what to expect from the bill except an estimation based on the weight and the rate. Here, everything is a fixed price and if you thought for $36 you will get a tiny crab with more shell than meat, you are wrong. The crabs here are of a decent size, they are fresh, the meat is succulent and sweet. This has got to be one of my “hidden-finds”!

Aside from being reasonably priced, the dishes are actually tasty! I have been here on 2 occasions. Once with a girlfriend and once with my family. I was extremely impressed by the quality given the price and at that time, the restaurant had not gained much publicity yet and there was no crowd. Not too sure about now so you had better make a reservation.

Now what have I tried…the crab bee hoon soup is very tasty. A generous portion of bee hoon is served and the soup is YUMMY. The crab is meaty and with its already natural sweetness, this was very satisfying. The Butter Crab was also very tasty and I would go as far as saying that I find it more value-for-money and way better than the butter crab I had at Taste Paradise at the Flyer. The crayfish was also well prepared and again, the fixed pricing was a delight. The kang kung was good with just the right amount of sambal without being too spicy.

So what didn’t work for me? The broccoli with scallops. I found the scallops a tad “fishy”. I am super sensitive to this so it might be alright for some of you, or maybe it was that one occasion. But I’ll say whilst they were generous with the scallops, that was a first and last for me.

Living around Serangoon Gardens? Or looking for some good seafood yet not burning a hole or going to the more familiar places like Jumbo, Long Beach and No Signboard? I recommend you check out House Kitchen and if they still maintain their standard the last 2 times I was there, then I reckon you wouldn’t be disappointed! :)

Melban Seafood @ AMK

My cousins from the States are in town so we brought them to Melban Seafood for some Chilli/Black Pepper Crabs and of course, Crab Bee Hoon. It was a Thursday night and Melban was crowded as usual but thankfully I made a reservation. Now what really annoyed me was how SLOW everything took to happen. I had to queue to place my orders and it was LONG. After which I had to go to another counter to order drinks. The drinks took some time to arrive and the food even longer. The thing that ticked me also was the fact that they didn’t have Sri Langkan crabs and we were given mud crabs instead. Is Melban becoming complacent and sloppy? I don’t know. But I doubt I will be back for awhile.

Granted, their Crab Bee Hoon Soup was very tasty and the soup was absolutely delicious. But their chilli crabs and black pepper crabs weren’t exactly to-die-for. The Black Pepper was more sweet and sticky as compared to what I am used to and the Chilli was just spicy with not much flavour to it. Plus it sucked that the crabs were so tiny.

The other dishes were good but also nothing to shout about. I was disappointed as I really wanted my cousin from abroad to enjoy their seafood here. I’d give their Crab Bee Hoon the thumbs up but otherwise, I think I would rather go to my usual haunts like Yum Cha, Long Beach and Jumbo for more serious crab dishes like the Chilli or Black Pepper. Sorry guys!!

Jumbo Seafood

I grew up on Jumbo Black Pepper Crabs. We used to have Jumbo Dim Sum so often that it was literally a ritual. After church every Sunday, unless we had other plans, Jumbo was our default lunch place. We would order dim sum usually and sometimes dad will indulge me and order crabs for lunch. Otherwise, crabs were usually a dinner choice. I recall trying other places when I was younger like Long Beach, Palm Beach, Red House, etc. But somehow we fell in love with the Jumbo crabs that it kinda stuck. As I became more into food and went round trying crabs, I lost that loyalty to Jumbo and started enjoying the likes of Yum Cha Black Pepper Crabs, and the Long Beach Black Pepper Crabs at Dempsey Hill. It’s been a long time since I had Jumbo crabs and I am so glad Daddy picked Jumbo @ Dempsey as our dinner venue.

Of all the Jumbo restaurants, I think my favourite is the one at Dempsey. Forget the outside seating, the inside seating is pretty nice as it is bright with a touch of grey and service is great. Our food came quickly too and each dish held its own with a certain quality and standard.

Here’s some of my favourite dishes from dinner that day…

Chilli Crab

I am NOT a fan of chilli crab but WOW. The ones at Jumbo have got to be the best I have had. I tried the one at Melban Seafood, the one at Yum Cha, and the one at Taste Paradise. This Chilli Crab wins hands down. The sauce is not too spicy, yet with enough kick, it is slightly sweet yet has a nice egg taste to it. The texture is perfect and goes well with the crab meat, and both steamed/fried buns. Needless to say, the crab was of good quality, the size was good and the meat was succulent. This has got to be my favourite Chilli Crab! For the first time, I actually ate more Chilli Crab than Black Pepper!

Black Pepper Crabs

I had forgotten how good the Jumbo Black Pepper Crabs taste. Whilst my favourites have still gotta be Yum Cha, Long Beach, Joo Chiat…Jumbo is definitely amongst them. The Black Pepper taste is stronger here and it can be a tad spicy. There is also a different taste to it as compared to the rest. Yummsss….my personal opinion (thought I can’t cook) is frying it with some butter to enhance the taste. Just my 2 cents worth. :p

The Boiled Live Prawns were fresh, sweet and tasty too. Sorry I forgot to snap a picture, I was too excited digging in! :)

Black Pepper Beef…this is not your ordinary hot plate beef with black pepper sauce. The meat is tender and juicy. The preparation is dry and served with lettuce. There is a sauce for you to dip but I usually like them slightly burnt and on its own. For a family of 4, order 2 slices. :)

The Seafood Hor Fun was a tad salty when we were there but otherwise it is yummy! I think one of the best hor funs is actually the one at Joo Chiat House of Seafood. Nonetheless, this was pretty awesome too.

For those of you who haven’t tried the crabs at Jumbo, you have to give them a try. It’s also one of the more reasonably priced seafood restaurants if you ask me.

Cheers! :)

Finally, pictures from my most recent dinner @ Yum Cha Restaurant

don’t order the hor fun!!!

a MUST try…BLACK PEPPER CRABS! Best in Singapore!!!

didn’t like the chilli crab. good crab but not very nice. order black pepper!

black sesame with ice cream. now this was yum!

Excellent Service at Yum Cha Restaurant Serangoon Gardens

Sorry to keep writing about Yum Cha but I brought some girlfriends there for dinner recently and not only were they thoroughly impressed by the sweet and fresh prawns, they also declared the Black Pepper Crab as the best they have ever had!!! The preparation and quality of the crab served was incredible. Unfortunately the chilli crab was lacking comparatively. Will write more on our dinner once I get the pics from the girls (had to use their cam as I left mine at home).

But one thing I have to write and I promised the girls I would, was on the commendable service extended to us throughout our dinner. The staff were friendly, vigilant, attentive and they even went as far as anticipating our needs!!!

1. C was sniffing from the spice and immediately a glass of ice water as well as dry tissue were placed in front of her without her even saying anything!

2. L was moving from black pepper crab to chilli crab and she was just thinking of dipping her hands in the wash bowls when the waiter brought it over (our table was so full we placed our individual wash bowls on a separate tray table). She didn’t even get a chance to ask!

3. C and L were struggling with their huge pincers (not for long), and immediately assistance was rendered and the staff offered to bring the pincers back in to crack it for them.

4. the continual refills of our water, tea, and clearing of our messy tissues, plates, etc. amazing.

OH and L wanted me to specially mention that the crab meat filled the entire crab such that there were absolutely no gaps between the meat and the shell. It was full. I must ask her what she said exactly and write it in my next post as I recall the way she said it was hilarious. L, if you are reading this, please feel free to add on under comments. C and PS also, in case I missed out something. So yes, PLEASE VISIT YUM CHA at SERANGOON GARDENS everyone!!!

Seafood Taste Paradise @ the Singapore Flyer

It was a weekday night and I was invited by my long-time good friend D to the Singapore Flyer. He had tickets and since I hadn’t been, we decided to go check it out together. We were walking along the ground floor looking for a place to have dinner when we passed Seafood Taste Paradise. OCBC credit cards was having a 1 for 1 crab promotion. My weakness for crabs had me drag D in for dinner, and just like that, we were seated.

yummy!! in all different preparations!!

I was actually rather surprised as the restaurant was near 80% seating capacity. It was a weekday night and certainly not Friday so the crowd surprised me. Once seated, we ordered some usual dishes and I decided to be adventurous so we steered away from my usual black pepper crabs choice and tried their specialty, Cream of Garlic Butter Crabs. All that I love taken apart, “cream”, “garlic”, “butter” and “crabs”; how could I say no? :)

We also had prawns that night. It was the usual poached prawns but I must say they were very fresh and sweet. It’s amazing how just the both of us ate all of it. But then again, we didn’t order much. The next other dish we had was the sambal kang kung which alright but not something I would order there again. Others on the menu looked pretty inviting so I will most probably try those next time.

cream of garlic butter crabs – so tiny!! compared to the crabs I had at Yum Cha. Check out the pics in my previous entry. No more tiny mud crabs!

The highlight was of course the crabs. When it arrived, it smelt really good and I was excited to start eating. However I think the mistake we made was to have ordered the promotion package. The 1 for 1 promotion meant that the 2 crabs served were mud crabs. I don’t like mud crabs as they are small and too much effort for little meat. Moreover their shells are really tough and very sharp when cracked. The mud crabs served were 500g each and to make it worse, they weren’t full crabs which was really exasperating for they were already so tiny and to find such little meat, at the expense of my nicely manicured nails (yes, I had done my nails and my index finger nail was unfortunately broken in the process); it was frustrating. Not to mention the gravy was really tasty, and I just wished I had more meat to eat with it. Next time, I am going to just order a normal crab. The promotion doesn’t warrant such dissatisfaction.

It was really yummy, the gravy they did. It tasted somewhat like oatmeal prawns. You could distinctively taste the garlic and yet there was also a sweet after taste. I can’t put my finger on it but it was addictive. I must say however that the cream kinda gets to you at the end of 2 crabs and it can get pretty “jelat”. I would still recommend trying this dish however as it’s really quite a good crab preparation alongside black pepper, chilli and salted egg (this is debatable. at some places salted egg sucks but at some places it can be really awesome. I hear it’s the new ‘in-thing’ in the crab domain though…).

The view from the FLYER was actually pretty good especially since we were there at night and it was after Marina Bay Sands had already opened. Kudos to the architects who designed the Marina Bay Sands. Whilst I haven’t been inside, I think the facade is magnificently grand and classy. I love how it has completed our skyline. One of these days I shall take some decent pictures and put them here.

this is D my good friend of 10 years! Yup, we’ve been friends since college days. Trusted pal who always gives in to my cravings and guilty dining pleasures. thanks D!!! (hahaha don’t say never give you credit for all those feasting sessions!)

PS: Sorry, I didn’t bring my camera that night so all pictures were taken off my blackberry. I tried my best guys…sorry!!! Better photographs next time! cos yes, one day I intend to bring my family here for dinner! Kinda pricy though (so many other cheaper solutions for my crab cravings) so it probably would have to be on occasion.

YUM CHA again – this time I wasn’t here for dim sum :)

Decided to check out Yum Cha again for their regular ala carte food instead of their dim sum as recommended by Melody who left a comment on my earlier YUM CHA entry. Surprisingly, I think I just might have found a hot contender for best Black Pepper Crab to rival Long Beach, Jumbo and Still Road. More on that later…

We were here to celebrate mom’s birthday.  Our family of 4 decided to dine at Yum Cha Serangoon Gardens upon my suggestion. The crabs and other dishes looked really tempting in the menu when I checked it out the last time I was there for dim sum so I knew I just had to try it. No regrets.

What we ordered…

poached prawns in chinese wine

the prawns were really fresh and i actually asked the waiter before ordering if they were going to kill the prawns in front of me as i heard that was the case with drunken prawns. he said no, and so we ordered. thankfully the prawns came as you see them in this picture. a very good dish i must say. i cant quite tell the difference from normal poached prawns but these prawns were sweet and tasty.

Peking Duck

Sorry guys, I didn’t have any of this as you know I don’t take duck. But according to my folks and bro, it was good. Honestly, I don’t know what made dad and N decide to order the duck. our family has never been a big fan of duck. in fact, that night, all they had was what you see on top, the skin with the wrap and sauce. what happened to the rest of the duck? we had them doggy bag it and we gave it to R for her lunch.

beef cubes (the non-black pepper option)

really sorry but i cant recall the name of this dish but i think there were 2 options and 1 was black pepper. I chose the other. this was pretty good. the beef cubes were very tender and it was very tasty. the sauce was light and had a blend of onions, capsicum and a little ginger.

sambal kang kung

if you haven’t realised by now, sambal kang kung is one of my favourite vegetable dish. however i am sorry to say that the one at yum cha just didn’t cut it. it was one of those whereby the chilli just overpowered everything. sambal kang kung at palm beach still rocks for me.

this is just ONE crab. We had 2 of these cos it was just so irresistibly YUMMY!

The highlight of the night had to be the BLACK PEPPER CRABS. Not only were they creatively presented, they tasted amazing!!! You could actually smell it from afar too! There was a slight “cao ta” (burnt) smell and taste and I absolutely dig that. For those of you who know me well enough, I love slightly burnt bbq chicken wings, otah, foie gras, etc. Anyway, the crabs were sizable at about 1.2kg, and they were good quality crabs in that the meat was full and filled the shells. Regular crab eaters like myself will know and be particular about getting a large looking crab but only to find pathetic meat inside that fills half the claw. The crab meat was also firm and sweet. It was really one of the better crabs I had tasted. The preparation wasn’t too wet neither was it too dry. In fact it had the perfect amount of moisture. I loved it how you could taste the black pepper yet it wasn’t overly spicy such that you could enjoy the full flavour of the crab. And of course, that lingering barbeque grill taste with a tinge of “burnt-ness”  (I hope you guys understand what I am trying really hard to describe here).

check out the crab claw!

I LOVE THE BLACK PEPPER CRAB AT YUM CHA! A must try. AT $4.20 per 100g I think it’s pretty reasonable given the service, quality and ambience. To the chef, WELL DONE! :)

bro and I after a very filling dinner. I look so stuffed here! tired and haggard too after a day’s work. sigh need to start pampering myself and taking care of me. the toils of work can be seen all over my face! :(

Red House @ Quayside

I was craving for some crabs and it suddenly dawned on me that I usually have crabs with my boyfriends and my family, or the one-off big group dinners with colleagues. I guess it never was the norm to go for a seafood dinner with the girls. Usually we would go for ala carte type food and less communal eating (well we share food and all, but it’s always more of an individual serving shared as opposed to old fashioned chinese eating). As R was in town that weekend, I asked her to have seafood with me and just like that, we went!

I wanted to have my crabs at Dempsey Jumbo or Long Beach as I knew it would be value for money there with past experiences to assure my satisfaction; but unfortunately as I called just 1 hour before, they were both fully booked. I suddenly recalled walking by the relatively newly opened Red House at the Quayside with S. I had been to the one at East Coast and they serve awesome Sri Lankan crabs there. In fact I think Red House used to be the flagship Crab eating place before everything else started sprouting out and becoming more commercial.

So there we were, 2 girls out on a Saturday night at Red House (Xiao Hong Lou), Quayside. For those of you who are unfamiliar, this is near the old Butter Factory, along Robertson Quay and Mohd Sultan. One of my favourite haunts in Singapore. Residential and away from the bustling crowds in town yet with a very healthy night live dozed with beer cheers and yummy smells from the many eating choices there.

Here’s what we ordered that night:

This was one of the recommended dishes on the menu. It caught both our eyes as the spice looked really inviting! And my gawd, it was SPICY! Nothing an average chilli-taker can’t handle. It was tasty and the spice did not over power the flavour of the dish. There were prawns, sotong…I think we were both going for the sotong mostly. :) Not bad at all!

We decided to order Baby Kailan with garlic to cleanse our taste buds from all the spice. A simple dish that could easily go wrong. It wasn’t the best I have had but it was good. Crunchy, leafy, and just about the right amount of garlic. They also served a decent portion unlike some other places who serve like they are feeding mice.

This was YUMMY!!! :) Fried Prawns with Garlic and Chilli? Haha sorry I really forgot the name but I am sure you can figure it out from the menu. Very tasty dish served with fresh prawns that were fried crisp and yet still retained enough moisture ie. not fried till it’s dried out neither fried till it just completely oiled. I loved the garlic taste in this dish. Remember to suck the shell!! :)

Not sure if I am being an idiot, but the Black Pepper Crab here seems different from the one at East Coast. I recall the other one to be more like Jumbo and Long Beach, somewhat dry and pepperish. The one here is moist and whilst you can taste the black pepper, it is also sweet with a tinge of garlic. The meat is fresh and the crab was succulent. Whilst I enjoyed my crab thoroughly, I wouldn’t say this is my favourite version of the Black Pepper Crab.

I think the guy was pretty amazed we finished everything all on our own. haha little does he know I can finish an entire Sri Lankan crab on my own! MUuuuuaaahHHHAAAAaaaaa!! :)

After dinner, R and I decided to chill with some alcohol in our system to unwind from a work week. We settled at WOLF in their nice comfy sofas and had our drinks. I really like the environment at Robertson. It’s currently my dream area for a single’s pad or as a young couple. With kids, maybe I will think differently, but for now, this is definitely the Yappie place.
