BACKSTREET BOYS CONCERT TICKET FOR SALE

I was supposed to watch the Backstreet Boys concert at the end of the month with my girls to re-live our Secondary School days but unfortunately I am unable to make it now. Anyone interested? It’s the most expensive tickets at $150 per piece. Kindly drop me a line via leaving a comment on this post or dropping me an email at thefoodgossip@gmail.com. I am willing to negotiate on the price.

New Layout

Hi guys!

Just changed the layout for my blog and in the process some of my pictures have got chopped off. Apologies for that but it’s way too tedious to readjust all my photos so if there is any picture you would like to have seen properly, just drop me a line yup?

Meanwhile, will try to catch up on my entries so that you may have more ideas for this festive season. :) I love Christmas..don’t you? :)

Cheers!

New posts coming up!

Sorry I haven’t been updating…It’s been a very busy couple of months. I have loads of pictures and places that I have visited and have yet to post so stay tuned!!! :P

Just off the top of my head…

check out La Noona @ Namly…very cosy place hidden in the midst of a lovely residential neighbourhood along bukit timah.

Let’s Clap…seafood restaurant at Railway Mall…very good quality chinese food although prices are pretty much like Tung Lok rates. Good sized crabs and very succulent meat!

District 10…next to the new ACJS at no.10 Winstedt Road, near Newton. a chill place with a nice ambience. The food is so-so I feel. Depending on what you order. Calamari is a thumbs up!

….many more!!!

Uncle Leong Seafood – Disappointing

Wanted to have some yummy black pepper crab after a day’s work so headed to Melban Seafood with my specific craving. Alas, despite it being a Tuesday night past 8pm, the place was full with a long queue too! S and I were famished and so we joined a bunch of spill-overs over at Uncle Leong Seafood which was just across from Melban.

We ordered Baby Kailan with Garlic, Hot Plate Deer Meat, Hokkien Mee, and of course Black Pepper Crab. Everything was mediocre but the crab was horrible. It wasn’t very fresh and the meat kept sticking to the shell which made the eating experience rather unpleasant. On top of that, the preparation really wasn’t great either. I would say it was bordering on average.

To top it all of, the entire meal was bloody expensive. Our bill came up to $68!! For the exact same number of dishes and probably with more generous portions, and definitely with a much more delicious crab; I paid only $40 at Wei Yue Seafood off Kim Tian Road! I so not going back to Uncle Leong’s again. In fact, for a regular day should I have such cravings again, I think I will just settle it cheaply at Wei Yue. I will definitely leave satisfied, happy and full. Even Kim’s Place, though slightly more expensive than Wei Yue would have been better for the quality warrants the price. Complete rip off. Argh. :(

SAD! SAD! SAD! :(

Waraku Japanese has changed its menu and my all time favourite, all time comfort food has been removed!!!  They no longer serve my TAN TAN UDON!!! How could they!!!????

Visited the one at Marina Square with my mom one Sunday and to my horror, I was told that they no longer serve my Tan Tan Udon. I was looking forward to it so much! Terribly disappointing.

Mom and I tried some other udon which were not bad at all. But frankly, don’t count on seeing me back there anymore. They just don’t measure up.

Vday Guest Writer’s Special: Final Instalment

I know this is late, but here’s the Final entry for the Vday special written by Michelle Lin.

Venue: Wan Tho Sek (Geylang between Lorong 17 & 19)
My v’day meal with a certain Mr. This is his first time here. I’ve been patronising this place for a couple of years. Great for cheap & tasty Dim Sum. Plus point is that it operates 24hours!

Fried Beancurd Skin Shrimp Roll (This is disappointing for a signature dish in Dim Sum. Over-fried and extremely oily. The prawns were tiny and not fresh. Absolutely tasteless. Give this a miss.)
dsc04067

Chicken Wings & Scallop Porridge (The chicken wings are to die for. Nicely fried – crispy without being overdone. A tad oily but very flavoursome. Has a sweet taste to it. A die die MUST-TRY dish here. I can confidently say this stall boasts one of the best chicken wings in Singapore. In my humble opinion, better than ICB and Brewerkz. The consistency of the scallop porridge is purrfect! Very few places do ‘niam niam’ porridge like this anymore. This is cooked with dried and fresh scallops. Nicely flavoured with no need for extra soya sauce. Love it!)

Char Siew Bao, Siew Mai, Har Gao (Shrimp Dumpling) & Char Siew Rice Roll (Cheong Fun) – (I like the char siew filling in the bao. The meat was sweet, tender and not fatty. There was bit of the char siew sauce in there and the meat wasn’t dry. The bao could have done with less flour though but nevertheless, it was nicely fluffy not flour-y. Please give the Siew Mai & Har Gao a miss. Seems like this stall can’t do signatures well. Siew Mai tasted like frozen food and the prawns in the Har Gao weren’t fresh. The ‘skin’ of the Har Gao was bad as well. Tasted like leftover food. The rice rolls here are another MUST-TRY! Smooth and soft ‘melt in your mouth’ kind of rice rolls. The gravy is indescrible. Try it to believe it.)

I can’t recall the name of this dish. If I’m not wrong, this is fried yam or carrot cake. It was so bad, we only had a piece each to try. Too oily and tasteless. We didn’t want to kill our artelleries so we left 4 pieces behind. Yucks.

As I am done writing this, I have this sudden immense craving to eat there right now. =)

Shandy Concurs!!

On one of those rare occasions, I managed to pull a colleague of mine to check out Surabaya – an Indonesian restaurant I had previously reviewed. The verdict? She liked it!!! :) Shan, you’re up for a review here, so stay tuned peeps!! :)
